About The Reading

Outside Mullingar

Anthony and Rosemary are two introverted misfits straddling 40. Anthony has spent his entire life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland, a  state of affairs that—due to his painful shyness—suits him well. Rosemary lives right next door, determined to have him, watching the years slip away. With Anthony’s father threatening to disinherit him and a land feud simmering between their families, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe. But then, in this very Irish story with a surprising depth of poetic passion, these yearning, eccentric souls fight their way towards solid ground and some kind of happiness. Their journey is heartbreaking, funny as hell, and ultimately deeply moving. OUTSIDE MULLINGAR is a compassionate, delightful work about how it’s never too late to take a chance on love.

Ryan Cowie

Ryan Cowie – Anthony Reilly

Ryan’s not as old as Jesus or Andy Maton, but he’s been acting awhile now. He’s appeared on TV trying to convince you to buy nearly every product known to
man, and most recently made appearances on Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Netflix’s Firefly Lane and Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s been an honor to work on this fantastic play with Jon, Vanessa, Andy and Patricia. You never know what you can create when you get together in your basement with a dedicated group of artists and lean into writing from one of our great living playwrights. It also meant every time they came over he was forced to clean his basement, and make it smell nice. Ryan is especially thankful to his kids, and incredible wife. They’re literally the reason he gets up every day. He makes breakfast and lunches. But they’re the real reason he feels so full of love, support, and gratitude. Making them happy, laugh and angry, is the best part of his everyday. Thank you Jenn, Angus, Beatrice and Estelle. I love you. He also sends a huge thank you to you for coming to support the arts!
